Trick words in the Patente B quiz, with real numbers

Every learner hears it: “if you see sempre or solo, it is false”. We counted every statement in the official list (7,020) to see how true that is. Short answer: these words make FALSO more likely, but a large share of them are VERO. You still have to know the rule.

Try 3 questions

The numbers (all 7,020 official statements)

Whole list: 50% VERO, 50% FALSO.

esclusivamente (only, exclusively): 14 statements, 93% FALSO.

mai (never): 12 statements, 92% FALSO.

in ogni caso (in any case): 21 statements, 90% FALSO.

solo / solamente / soltanto (only): 275 statements, 76% FALSO, so about 1 in 4 is VERO.

qualsiasi / qualunque (any): 46 statements, 74% FALSO.

sempre (always): 79 statements, 66% FALSO, so 1 in 3 is VERO.

non (not): 820 statements, 51% FALSO: no hint at all, it just flips the meaning.

può / possono (can) and anche (also): about 43% FALSO, so slightly more often VERO.

What to do with these words

Treat them as a warning, not as the answer. Ask: is there an exception? From the official list: “Il conducente deve sempre mantenere il controllo del veicolo” is VERO; “In un centro abitato è sempre consentita la marcia per file parallele” is FALSO.

Underline the word, then read the rest of the sentence: the rule decides, not the word.

Questions

Is every statement with “solo” false?

No. 76% are FALSO, but about 1 in 4 (67 of 275) are VERO.

Does “non” mean the answer is false?

No. Statements with non are almost exactly half VERO and half FALSO. Read it carefully because it reverses the meaning.
